Remembering the Legacy of Mahbub Dewan: A Visionary Architect and Philanthropist

We deeply regret to announce the passing of Mahbub Dewan, the founder and Principal Architect of D1 Architect & Associates. It is with great sadness that we share this news, as Mahbub, along with his wife Afreen Dewan, lost their lives battling Covid-19 Pneumonia.

Mahbub embarked on his architectural journey 42 years ago as an Assistant Professor at the Architecture Department of Dhaka BUET. After pursuing higher studies in Belgium, he ventured to Canada and later settled in the United States. In 2008, Mahbub established D1 Architect in Dallas, Texas, alongside fellow architects. Through his unwavering dedication, he transformed the firm into one of the most innovative and successful architectural design and construction companies in Texas and beyond. His infectious smile and remarkable positive energy embodied the essence of a truly exceptional individual.

Apart from spending cherished moments with his family, Mahbub found immense pleasure and excitement in his work, building D1 Architect to its present stature. He poured his love and devotion into creating something that seemed beyond imagination, alongside his wife. With integrity, honesty, and tireless effort, he served his clients and earned a reputation as the "Einstein of Architecture" among those he worked with. Somehow, Mahbub had an uncanny ability to bring the impossible to life.

What truly set Mahbub apart was his visionary outlook, enabling him to perceive what others couldn't. His exceptional vision led to the design of numerous award-winning projects, including the EPIC (East Plano Islamic Center). As a philanthropist, Mahbub consistently sought ways to give back to the community. His passion for teaching drove him to support talented young designers, architects, and engineers, fostering in-house research and entrepreneurship.

While no individual can ever replace the profound impact Mahbub had on all of us, we remain committed to providing his clients with a familiar face and an unparalleled experience they have come to expect. Mashrur Dewan, Mahbub's only son and right-hand, will now lead D1 Architect and Associates as the new President & Architect. Assisting him in this endeavor is Mayeesa Noor Dewan, MBA, Mahbub's Daughter-In-Law, who will serve as Vice-President & Business Development. There could be no better successors to carry on Mahbub and Afreen's remarkable legacy than their very own "gems," as they often referred to them.

In honor of Mahbub Dewan and Afreen Dewan, D1 Architect has partnered with BUET (Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology) to support young aspiring architects and engineers through scholarships, internships, and job opportunities. This collaboration aims to nurture and empower the next generation of architectural talent.

We mourn the loss of Mahbub and Afreen deeply and will forever cherish their contributions to our firm, the architectural community, and the countless lives they touched. Their spirits will continue to inspire us as we move forward, honoring their legacy and upholding the principles they held dear.
